Capture unforgettable moments on your mobile phone!

Mobile phones accompany us everywhere we go, and enable us to capture unforgettable moments which would otherwise only remain in our memories. With our mobiles, always to hand in a pocket, we can capture family trips, sports adventures, breath-taking landscapes, and party videos.

Content needs to be filmed in the proper format

If you plan to publish your video on social media, we suggest that you capture the moment in portrait format. If you plan to publish this same content on other channels, such as a website, YouTube, or LinkedIn, you need to use landscape format. Film the main happening in the centre of the footage, and make sure there is plenty of additional space around the edge; the video can then be cropped later, before publishing, to correspond to the format for the particular communication channel. The content can then be used on all of these channels.

Filming indoors vs outdoors
Lighting should be constant throughout the whole video and should not change. If you don’t have extensive experience with filming, it’s easier to capture your videos indoors; in this way you will avoid local noise and weather conditions that may lower the quality of the picture and sound. Sun or rain may affect the picture quality, whereas a strong wind can affect sound quality.

Filming indoors, you will avoid all these external factors and have better control over the environment. However, even when indoors it still makes sense to use natural lighting instead of other sources.

Choose the correct mode
Portrait mode
When you are trying to capture an individual or small group in a photo or video, select portrait mode from the options on your mobile phone. This will give you the best results only if the brightness in the room is high enough. Carefully place the light source or the person so that there are no shadows on the faces.

Night mode
Evening and night videos will be of a higher quality when captured in night mode or with a nightography function. This function is also great to use when there is not enough light indoors. In addition to this, during poor lighting conditions it is best to place your mobile on a stand. If you do not have one available, place your mobile on any stable surface. Some mobiles offer a function for the stabilization of the video; this particularly comes in handy when you are trying to capture sports activities.

Don’t forget about the sound!
The quality of the sound is usually not the best when the content is captured by a mobile or tablet. When you are filming a person speaking, you should choose a quiet environment. The mobile should be placed as close to the person as possible. When you are filming in a loud environment you should accompany the video with music in the background and highlight the main message with text and graphics.

The background
Even though the attention of the viewer is usually on the main happening, stay aware of what is going on in the background. We need to make sure that there are no distracting things in the background that could divert the attention of the viewers. Anyone who was not informed about the filming or who did not agree to be part of the video should not be seen in the background. Along with everything else, the background should support the key message.

Educational videos should be short and interactive!

People’s average attention span has decreased significantly over the past decade. Among other things, it is defined by age, gender, and lifestyle. When preparing online educational content, bear in mind the average attention span and other demographic characteristics of your target audience. The average attention span of an audience is currently around 8-10 minutes. The average attention for watching online videos is even shorter – a little bit less than three minutes. If you think your topic can’t be covered in less than three minutes, prepare several shorter videos; this will enable the audience to memorize all the key concepts better, and integrate the educational content into their already busy schedule more easily.

Present your information in different ways.

Online training participants memorize information based on their learning style. Most people memorize information best when it is presented visually – but content creators and lecturers often forget about those who belong to other learning types. All educational content should present the same information in different ways. Your content should be always accompanied by the voice of a narrator and appropriate music.

Make your content interactive.

Besides the visual and auditory, there is also the kinaesthetic learning style. These people memorize information best when they acquire it through an activity or experience. Your online content should include activities and tasks that the participants can complete on their own. They should be able to write down their associations and thoughts and share them in team discussions. You can

Would you like to improve your content even further?

If you would like to use your training content for a longer period, you must update it regularly, particularly, if it contains data that is subject to constant change. Also, ask the participants for feedback about your content; this enables you to further improve and upgrade it. Maybe some concepts are not well-explained, information is missing, the examples provided are not illustrative enough, or the display or the design on a mobile or tablet doesn’t work well. Don’t take this feedback as a negative critique, but rather as an opportunity for improvement.

Theoretical knowledge should always be backed up by practical work

Online content will save you time, simplify the organization of the entire training course, and make the content more interesting. However, we recommend you also include some current and relevant examples from real life, and make sure that the theoretical knowledge of the participants is backed up by practical work.

Once the training course is completed, it is a good idea to make sure that the participants will have access to periodic updates to refresh their knowledge on a regular basis.
