Capture the attention of top talent with an appealing employment video

The current shortage in the labour force and the entry of new generations into the labour market are encouraging companies to search for new ways to attract potential employees. Employment search activities are moving online. To attract the attention of younger generations, companies are deciding to produce one or several videos; in this article, we summarize the answers to the three most frequently asked questions about this type of video.

What should the employment video consist of?

It should present the values of your company, so that you can attract the attention of people that already share the same values. Potential employees are usually also eager to know what the relationships and work atmosphere are like. Your video should include some clips of everyday work scenarios; based on these, potential employees will get a better impression of the job position and work tasks. It is also important to display teamwork and the atmosphere of your company.

Who to feature in the video?

This depends on the currently vacant posts. You should include people who are already employed in those positions or in that department. Posts are best presented through an interview with a current employee, allowing the candidates to identify with that person. Besides the job description/work tasks, it is also important to present the promotion and training possibilities, and give future employees some information about the onboarding process and mentorship programme available within the company. Statements should be provided by employees who have been with the company for some time, since they can talk about the strengths of working for the company, reconciling work and family life, and annual company activities and events.Employees

Where should you publish the employment video?

The best way to reach appropriate candidates for vacant positions is online. Advertising online enables you to define your target group very precisely. On social media you can reach people based on their age, educational background, interests, and current job position. Before you decide on a paid promotion, ask your employees if they can help you spread the word. The video will be even better accepted if shared by your employees, as it then sends the message that the current employees are satisfied with their work and proud to work for your company. However, bear in mind that you can only ask employees to share the content – they are by no means obliged to do so.

Capture unforgettable moments on your mobile phone!

Capture unforgettable moments on your mobile phone!

Mobile phones accompany us everywhere we go, and enable us to capture unforgettable moments which would otherwise only remain in our memories. With our mobiles, always to hand in a pocket, we can capture family trips, sports adventures, breath-taking landscapes, and party videos.

Content needs to be filmed in the proper format

If you plan to publish your video on social media, we suggest that you capture the moment in portrait format. If you plan to publish this same content on other channels, such as a website, YouTube, or LinkedIn, you need to use landscape format. Film the main happening in the centre of the footage, and make sure there is plenty of additional space around the edge; the video can then be cropped later, before publishing, to correspond to the format for the particular communication channel. The content can then be used on all of these channels.

Filming indoors vs outdoors
Lighting should be constant throughout the whole video and should not change. If you don’t have extensive experience with filming, it’s easier to capture your videos indoors; in this way you will avoid local noise and weather conditions that may lower the quality of the picture and sound. Sun or rain may affect the picture quality, whereas a strong wind can affect sound quality.

Filming indoors, you will avoid all these external factors and have better control over the environment. However, even when indoors it still makes sense to use natural lighting instead of other sources.

Choose the correct mode
Portrait mode
When you are trying to capture an individual or small group in a photo or video, select portrait mode from the options on your mobile phone. This will give you the best results only if the brightness in the room is high enough. Carefully place the light source or the person so that there are no shadows on the faces.

Night mode
Evening and night videos will be of a higher quality when captured in night mode or with a nightography function. This function is also great to use when there is not enough light indoors. In addition to this, during poor lighting conditions it is best to place your mobile on a stand. If you do not have one available, place your mobile on any stable surface. Some mobiles offer a function for the stabilization of the video; this particularly comes in handy when you are trying to capture sports activities.

Don’t forget about the sound!
The quality of the sound is usually not the best when the content is captured by a mobile or tablet. When you are filming a person speaking, you should choose a quiet environment. The mobile should be placed as close to the person as possible. When you are filming in a loud environment you should accompany the video with music in the background and highlight the main message with text and graphics.

The background
Even though the attention of the viewer is usually on the main happening, stay aware of what is going on in the background. We need to make sure that there are no distracting things in the background that could divert the attention of the viewers. Anyone who was not informed about the filming or who did not agree to be part of the video should not be seen in the background. Along with everything else, the background should support the key message.
